Tutorial: 7 Step Smokey Eye

Rock the Smokey Eye’ palette from Honeybee Gardens.

The palette includes four colours: Nirvana (a bright matte white), Chrome (a grey/silver), Falon (a matte black) and Chivalry (a medium/deep purple with slight shimmer)

Step 1) Use a concealer to cover any dark under eye circles (I used Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer in SC-1). Apply an eye-shadow primer to the eyelid (I used Urban Decay’s Primer Potion) - this will keep your eye-shadow in place throughout the day/night and will prevent creasing. Primers are also useful as they cause the eye-shadow colours to appear more vibrant. I also filled in my brows using a BDB Brow Powder in taupe and BDB universal brow pencil.

Step 2) Using either a brush or your finger, apply a white eye-shadow (Nirvana) to the entire lid, over the brow bone all the way up to the brow. Apply some to the inner corner of your eye as this will open them up and give the illusion of wider, brighter eyes.

Step 3) Take a silver eye-shadow (Chrome) and run this through the crease of your eye (I like to use a fluffy blending brush). This will contour your eyes and give them depth.

Step 4) Next use a black eye-shadow (Falon) and apply this over top of the silver. Take it out a little further at the outer corners to elongate the eyes and give them a more sultry look.

Step 5) Using a small amount of a deep purple or burgundy colour (Chivalry) apply this onto and just slightly above the black contour. This adds warmth to the look. Using your finger or a blending brush, blend everything together well to avoid harsh lines. - You can change this up and use a deep green, blue or another colour to compliment your clothing and/or eye colour.

Step 6) Take a small angled brush and a small amount of black eye-shadow (Falon) and apply this underneath your eye, as close to the lash line as possible.

Step 7) Using either a liquid or gel liner (I used LA Colors Smudge Proof liquid eye-liner), line your eyes - again being sure to stay close to the lash line. Keep your eyes shut until the liner has dried. Then use an eyelash curler to curl your lashes and apply mascara to finish the look.
